Music Corner: Vivian Girls
Take three parts Jesus and Mary Chain, one part The Raincoats, two parts The Shangri-Las, and a touch of Brooklyn attitude, and you’ve got the band Vivian Girls.
Although the otherworldly heroines they’re named after have inspired a bevy of bands—Sufjan Stevens, Tilly and the Wall, and Natalie Merchant, to name a few—none are quite as catchy.
The sweet vocals, shimmering guitar notes, and low-fi fuzz from this Brooklyn-based trio turned us into obsessive listeners and caused enough of a sensation that their debut vinyl-only album sold out in a matter of weeks.R. Willa Davis
