South By South West is one of the biggest showcases in the US. Everyone who is doing something in music can be found there. The streets are filled with your favorite musicians, artists, and producers of all genres. Most of these showcases are free, so unless youre trying to drink you can go from venue to venue, all day and night and enjoy live music without spending heaps of money.
Here are our top picks of artists that are playing. Be sure to check them out!
BANKS. Shes a singer/songwriter from Tarzana, CA that is blowing up in the Electronic music scene with only one EP release in 2013 called London. Check out her song Warm Water (Snakehips Remix) to get a sense of what shes about. Harvest Records, is introducing BANKS at Haven in Austin, TX (409 Colorado St.) on Tuesday, March 11th from 12am-1240am. The show is 21+.
BLAST, is a punk band from Santa Cruz, CA released Blood in 2013, which was produced by legend Dave Grohl. This band is for fans of Black Flag. Theyre playing March 14th, 1am-145am at Red 7 Patio (611 E 7th St.) and the show is all ages.
Next up, Childish Gambino uses a unique blend of hip-hop genres and lyrical genius, has gone from a viral cult to a mega sensation. With only two record releases, the artists has made his place on Billboard charts. After just recently seeing Childish Gambino and his performance, it is definitely something to see. Hes playing March 15th 8pm-930pm at Butler Park Stage Lady Bird Lake (1000 Barton Spring Rd.) The show is all ages.
As far as psychedelic garage punk goes, Dead Ghosts takes the lead. The band was formed in 2008. This band is for fans of Thee Oh Sees. Theyre coming all the way from Vancouver, Canada to play South By, so check them out. The band will be playing March 15th, 10pm-1040pm at The Velveeta Room (521 E 6th St.) Listen to their record Cant Get No to get hyped for their set, this show is also all ages.
Single Mothers, hailing from Ontario, Canada is playing South By Southwest. The band has claimed to have been broken up since 2009, but playing shows ever since. For fans of grungy/garage punk. The band is playing at Friends (208 E 6th St) at 1am. The show is 21+.
